A visitor to Lieber Correctional Institution faces a drug charge and other counts after an attempt was made to deliver marijuana and other contraband to a state prison.

Lynetta McCloud Mitchell, 60, of Winnsboro, was charged Sunday with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, providing contraband to an inmate and criminal conspiracy, a news release from the South Carolina Department of Corrections says.

The incident happened as Mitchell was visiting an inmate at the prison in Ridgeville.

The contraband included 85 grams of a substance that field-tested positive for marijuana, the release says. Also included were tobacco and jewelry. Corrections officers interrupted the delivery of the contraband in the act.

One of the arrest warrants says, “There are multiple signs placed in conspicuous areas at the entrance of LCI describing what contraband is and that it is illegal to furnish, attempt to furnish any SCDC inmate with contraband.”
