AT A GLANCE

- James Patrick Kinard, 39, was shot to death at the Hazzard Circle area of the town.
- SLED entered the case at the request of the Ridge Spring Police Department.
State agents have made a second arrest in a years-old cold case slaying.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division charged Derrick Cyrus Jr., 30, this month with accessory after the fact to murder, a news release from the agency says.
SLED earlier charged Earl Eugene Valentine Jr., 24, with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was arrested Feb. 7.
Both men were booked at the Saluda County Detention Center, where Cyrus was still being held Monday afternoon. Valentine was being held at Kirkland Correctional Institution.
The men were charged in the Oct. 19, 2018, fatal shooting of James Patrick Kinard, 39, at the Hazzard Circle area of Ridge Spring. SLED became involved in the case at the request of the Ridge Spring Police Department.
The probable cause to arrest Valentine included him being picked out from a photo lineup by a witness, a SLED agent’s affidavit says.
The case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
