A Jasper County school system official sued the school district, its board and other officials, alleging he was demoted after reporting conduct by former Superintendent Rechel Anderson.

Wesley Terrill, the system’s former human resources director, said in the lawsuit that Anderson improperly hired district staff to work at her private businesses in Florence and Myrtle Beach during school hours. He claims he was demoted to an information technology assistant role after raising concerns with the school board in the summer of 2024, The Post and Courier newspaper reported.

The issues he raised led to Anderson’s suspension, an internal investigation and her termination in October.

His lawsuit accuses the district and its board of breaching his contract, whistleblower retaliation, and conspiracy to demote him.

Through his attorney, Aaron Wallace, Terrill declined to comment to the newspaper other than to say that Terrill remains a district employee.

Board members and district officials did not respond to requests for comment.

Anderson’s attorney, Paul Porter, disputed the allegations, saying they are false and “seriously lack context.”

Terrill’s lawsuit also says that Anderson sought to professionally and personally undermine him.

The Jasper County School District is under investigation by the S.C. Inspector General’s Office, and in December, the state Board of Education has took control of the district’s finances, The Post and Courier reported.
