Sweeny, Wingate & Barrow member P. Jason Reynolds has been named a Super Lawyers South Carolina Rising Star for the second year in a row, and associate Ryan Holt has been named a Super Lawyers South Carolina Rising Star for 2015.  Reynolds handles transportation, auto negligence, premises liability, products liability and construction defects matters. Holt handles construction defect, premises liability, retail, and product liability matters.  Sweeny Wingate & Barrow is a litigation defense, estate planning and corporate transactions firm representing individuals, businesses and insurance companies throughout South Carolina from the firm’s Columbia and Hartsville offices.

Smith Moore Leatherwood has announced that Tod Hyche, partner in charge of the firm’s Greenville office, has been elected as South Carolina state chair-elect for the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel (ACTEC).  Following his one year term as chair-elect, Hyche will assume the role of South Carolina state chair for five years.

Mark D. Chappell, founding Partner of Chappell, Smith & Arden, received the 2015 Gold Compleat Lawyer Award on April 30 from University of South Carolina School of Law Alumni Council. Chappell was admitted to practice law in South Carolina and in the U.S. Court of Appeals Fourth Circuit in 1985. He was admitted to practice in the District of Columbia in 1993. Chappell currently serves on the Board of Governors for the American Association for Justice and is a past president of the South Carolina Association for Justice.

Jacob Born, an attorney with Chappell Smith & Arden, was named president of the Charleston School of Law Alumni Association Columbia Area Chapter. The Columbia chapter is one of 10 regional chapters established by the school. Born is a 2011 graduate of the Charleston School of Law and a 2006 graduate of the University of South Carolina. Born is admitted to practice law in both South Carolina and Georgia.

Bowman and Brooke has announced that Ashleigh R. Wilson has joined the firm’s Columbia office as an associate. For the past three years, Wilson has represented South Carolina in over 300 civil actions in both the circuit and appellate courts as the assistant to the attorney general.
